The Weede Estate — Fine Art

A curated selection of works offered for the auction house’s consideration. Click any image to view it in high resolution.

About this presentation. The following works have been pre-selected from the estate for review. Each entry lists medium, any signature or edition markings, and condition notes, with high-resolution photographs including signature and detail close-ups. These notes are a preliminary visual assessment, not an appraisal or authentication; signature readings are best-effort and to be confirmed in hand. The most useful next step for any piece is a photograph of the verso (back) and its overall dimensions.

Priority Selections

For review

Signed originals, listed or named artists, and hand-signed & numbered limited-edition prints.

Item 20 Priority for review

“Romantic Triple-Decker”

Signed “Kohlmeyer ’73” · 74/75

Color serigraph (silkscreen) on deckle-edge paper, framed

Three stacked color fields — blue-green over olive-gold over aubergine flecked with cobalt — on cream paper. Pencil-titled lower left, numbered 74/75, and signed “Kohlmeyer ’73.” Signature, palette and title are strongly consistent with Ida Kohlmeyer (1912–1997), a listed New Orleans abstractionist with an established auction record.

Item 21 Priority for review

“UNION II”

Signed lower right · 28/100

Color etching / aquatint on paper, gilt frame

Surrealist composition: two biomorphic figures flanking a pink-and-black harlequin band with a blonde female head, a banded serpent and a pierced golden form. Pencil-numbered 28/100, titled “UNION II,” signed lower right (reads approx. “Tom Pass ’85” — to be verified). A well-executed hand-signed, numbered original intaglio print.

Item 15 Priority for review

“Eight Ball House”

Signed & numbered in pencil

Original black-and-white etching (intaglio) on paper, gilt frame

Densely worked intaglio: a shrouded face within a coffin-like frame, surrounded by lily foliage, insect wings and a billiard 8-ball lower left. Pencil-titled “Eight Ball House,” editioned (reads ~8/30), signed lower right (reads approx. “Christopher B—dell” — to be verified). Original hand-pulled, signed, titled, numbered print.

Item 13 Send for review

Trompe-l’oeil still life — apple & knife

Realist oil

Oil on canvas, carved gilt frame

A peeled, sliced red apple beside an antique bone-and-brass folding pocket knife, with convincingly rendered water droplets on a warm monochrome ground. An accomplished, saleable realist work. A mark lower right may be a signature (illegible in these images).

Item 11 Send — photographs specialist

Nude study at a ballet barre

Vintage photograph

Silver-gelatin photograph, gilt frame

Warm-toned silver-gelatin print of a nude figure at a barre against a pegboard wall; mid-20th-century feel. No signature is visible on the face — value depends on identifying the photographer, almost certainly noted on the verso or in the margin under the mat.

Item 12 Send for review

Cubist drawing — “for Jeff”

Signed “Petty”

Graphite & colored pencil on paper, reeded gilt frame

An angular, faceted abstract figure composition. Signed lower right “Petty,” inscribed lower left “for Jeff.” An original, signed and dedicated drawing. Condition note: visible foxing (scattered brown spots) on the sheet.

Item 4 Send for review

Hard-edge serigraph

Artist’s proof (A.P.), signed

Silkscreen on paper, framed

Four stacked color bars — yellow, blue, green, salmon — over a gray dot-grid field within a dashed red border. Pencil-inscribed upper left (reads approx. “Krebs,” with “A.P.”) and signed lower right (reads approx. “Brayton Burke” — both readings uncertain). A hand-signed artist’s proof outside the numbered edition.

Item 16 Included — worth a look

Tonalist oil — landform against a luminous sky

Signed “J. Seagle” (verify)

Oil, gilt frame

An atmospheric near-abstract landscape: a dark mounded form against a glowing yellow-gold ground. Signed lower left. A confident, moody original oil with contemporary-decorator appeal.

Item 17 Included — worth a look

Abstract on paper — monogram “md”

Contemporary original

Graphite / wash on handmade deckle-edge paper, float frame

A loose gestural chain of graphite loops over a mottled mauve-gray wash on handmade paper. Signed with a lowercase “md” monogram lower right. A sizeable contemporary original work on paper.

Item 18 Included — review if signed

Impasto abstract expressionist oil

Original painting

Oil on canvas, black frame with beaded gilt liner

A thickly built palette-knife oil: a molten red-orange central mass over a dark ground. No signature located in these images (corners and verso should be checked). Strong physical presence.

Item 5 Included — check inscription

Mixed-media abstract in a painted frame

Possible inscription lower right

Mixed media, hand-decorated frame

A vivid neon-yellow ground with red drip lines and an orange/black target wheel, set in a hand-striped rust-and-gold artist-made frame. A text block lower right may carry an artist name/date (not legible in these images).

Item 22 Included — worth a look

Abstract mixed-media / collage

Signed “D. Petluck”

Mixed media & collage on paper, framed

A vertical orange band at left against a dark teal/blue gestural field with collage inclusions and red accents. Signed lower right “D. Petluck.” An original signed mixed-media work.
